How to Clean an Air Conditioner Filter (Simple Guide)

Dirty filters stop airflow, reduce cooling, and increase power bills.
Cleaning them is quick and easy.

1. Turn Off the System

Safety first.

2. Open the Front Cover

Most split systems:

• Lift cover from bottom

• Filters swing out easily

3. Remove the Filters

Two mesh filters usually slide straight out.

4. Vacuum the Dust

Use:

• Brush attachment

• Low suction

Don’t damage the mesh.

5. Wash With Warm Water

Rinse from the cleaner side → outwards.
Avoid detergents unless very dirty.

6. Dry Completely

Sun-dry or air dry.
Never reinstall wet filters.

7. Clean Every 2–4 Weeks

More often in dusty areas.
